Each room at Monkey Puzzle Didsbury is individually appointed to reflect the particular requirements of each age group from three months to five years old. Children are moved between rooms based on individual development rather than age. The Nursery is split into four main areas:
We have 2 baby rooms.
Non mobile babies benefit from the large, bright, open plan day room, well equipped to stimulate the babies senses during their formative months.
As babies spend a lot of time sleeping at this early age, we provide a dedicated sleep and sensory room.
As they become mobile they move through to our second baby room which is a bright open space with more facilities to encourage them to
explore their mobility and take their first steps.
We constantly monitor the temperature to ensure the babies are comfortable and monitor the children at all times. There are never more than three babies to any one member of staff.
Babies have supervised access to the garden and planned local walks and outings.
Your child’s key worker will take care of all your child’s personal needs whenever possible reinforcing the Early Years Foundation Stage “Positive Relationships” which continues to build during your child’s time at Monkey Puzzle.
The Teenies room is for children 18 months-2 years with the day structured around their changing interests. The room is very well appointed with fantastic levels of equipment allowing your child to discover at their individual level of understanding.
The room follows the ‘Early Years Foundation Stage’ framework and encourages learning through play. The Teenies also have supervised access to the gardens and planned local walks and outings
The Toddler room benefits from a number of dedicated areas; creative and messy area, a reading corner, circle time and a home area corner. As this is the time when the majority of children start ‘toilet training’, the toddlers room is equipped with brightly decorated children’s toilets, encouraging toilet training and independence. The Toddlers can have free flow supported access onto the outdoor play area plus planned local walks and outings.
Preschool is across 2 rooms with activities to support the children in the seven areas of learning. The first is a quieter learning environment with an interactive white board and learning zone for maths and literacy, book and circle time zone, home corner, construction and understanding the world.
The second room is a large bright and spacious area with sand and water, creative and messy play opportunities along with Den, junk modelling and larger construction, investigation zone, cookery activities, circle time and book corner.
The children have open access to the garden every day from their messy and creative play room and can choose to complete a lot of their daily activities outside. The garden environments also reflect the areas of learning and allows problem solving on a grander scale.
All the children in all rooms go out for local educational trips, and whether it be to the local shops or places of interest we always risk assess our outings and ensure that ratios are adhered to. From Teenies upwards there are regular cookery activities, wake up and shake up and weekly adult led physical education, in addition our pre-school have weekly Spanish lessons. We support government funding which consists of 15 hours free per week for each child from September 2010 the term after their third birthday.
All children receive a hot nutritious meal at lunch time and our dedicated staff team sit with the children to encourage communication and social interaction. Our aim is to encourage outside play everyday.
Outside Play Area
Our fully enclosed outdoor play area allows children’s learning to continue outside.
They are able to make dens, build, climb and play with water and sand, make mud pies in the mud kitchen. Picnics and tea parties or sitting and reading can all be done in our large outside area. Anything the children want to achieve outside, we can support them to make this happen in a safe and stimulating environment.
A large car park provides ample space off road to ensure safe and convenient drop offs and pick ups, so that every visit to the nursery is welcoming and convenient for both your child and you.
